Women

The Women’s Ministry of Hiland Park Baptist Church seeks to celebrate the uniqueness of being women and to minister to the special needs of women in our church and community.

This is accomplished through various means:

  • Encouraging and enriching each woman’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Discovering and developing each woman’s God-given gifts for use in the ministry and service.
  • Teaching and practicing the principles of a successful prayer life.
  • Studying and applying Scripture and all its principles.
  • Deepening and strengthening the bonds between women through various opportunities of fellowship.

Bound, Stitched, Mended, and Sewn…..these are more than just words of the trade for the Stitch to Sow Group from Hiland Park Baptist Church. These quilters make more than beautiful, warm quilts for the Homebound Ministry, Pregnancy Center, and Anchorage Children’s Home. They make a lasting commitment to Christ and to one another. They “bind” themselves in prayer before and during the meetings. Then, amid the whir of several machines, they cut, stitch, sew and label. Their mission is clear…..to make sure each recipient of a quilt is “wrapped” in the Love, Comfort, and Care of Christ!

Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in the Women’s Ministry House at 6pm, the quilters use a method of strip quilting called Quilt In A Day. No previous experience with quilting is necessary and a quilt can be pieced together in about 5 hours. Much of the fabric and other supplies like batting has been donated to the group, but quilters can furnish their own material.

Recent Donations

Stitch to Sow donated 25 quilts to the Pregnancy Center and the GAs delivered 24 more to the Baptist Center.  38 knit scarves, some hat/ scarf sets, were donated to the Rescue Mission for their Warm Hearts ministry.
